Upcoming changes to the library website
From 1 October 2025, the Auckland Council Libraries website is moving to a new platform. This is to improve the overall functionality of our website and online service.
Most of the site will appear the same, but some pages and forms may look or work differently for a short time while we work through these updates.
Here’s what to expect, and where to go if you need help.
What’s staying the same?
You will still be able to access most library services as usual, including:
- Catalogue search – browse, borrow and renew as usual.
- Research resources – keep exploring our digital collections.
- Kura Heritage Collections Online – the digital index of heritage items will stay the same.
- Ask us to buy it – you can still request new titles for the library collection. Submit your request online or speak to staff in person at your local branch.
- Book a librarian – schedule a one-on-one session for support with research, CVs, digital skills, or other library services. Book online or in person.
- Create or reset your PIN – you can continue to manage your PIN online as usual.
- Get heritage and research support – you can still submit a research enquiry and book an appointment to access heritage material at the Heritage Collections Reading Room.
- Central City Library tour requests – you can still book a Central City library tour using our website.
What’s changing temporarily?
We will be working as quickly as possible to return everything to full and improved functionality.
Some services will be temporarily offline, but you can access them in other ways:
- Joining the library (eMembership) – the online join form will be temporarily unavailable from 1 October. Pop into your local library and our staff will set you up in person. Or, call Library Connect to join over the phone.
- Updating your details – the online form will be unavailable from 1 October. Use the general enquiries form, call Library Connect or update in person.
- eBook and eMagazine help – from 1 October, you’ll need to submit eBook and eMagazine queries via the general enquiries form or ask a staff member in person.
Some forms will not send a confirmation email to your email address automatically. Instead, you’ll see a confirmation message pop up on the webpage after you submit.
Other services with a new look
You may notice these webpages have reduced information or functionality while we work to improve them:
- Library locations and hours – you will be able to find library branch information on our website and click through to Google for opening hours, map location and service highlights.
- New titles and recommended reads – you will still be able to find fresh new titles and staff picks! These may look different for now, but we are continuing to add new recommendations for great reading.
- Homepage search bar – you can search the website using the search bar or click through to search the library catalogue and research database.
Services no longer available
Some services are being retired and will not return after 1 October:
- Ready-to-go reads
You can still get helpful book suggestions from knowledgeable librarians at your local library or via Library Connect.
Need help?
If you get stuck, please contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction. Your local library staff can also help in person.
We appreciate your patience while we improve the website and are committed to making your library experience smooth and enjoyable.
