Make your voice heard

The 2023 General Election will be held on 14 October, with voting opening on 2 October 2023.

Everyone's voice is important! We've put together some information on how we can support you to enrol to vote and get ready for the general election.

Enrol to vote

  • Enrol online through the Vote.NZ website
You will need to have a New Zealand driver's licence, New Zealand passport or RealMe verified identity.
  • Other ways to enrol - Vote.NZ website
There are a number of other ways to enrol, including mailing in a signed paper enrolment form. We can support you to print one of these in the library from the Vote.NZ website. The Electoral Commission can also mail one out to you.

If you currently aren’t housed, you can use your last residential address where you lived for at least one month, even if that was some time ago. It can also be the address of a friend, family member, church or support group. Visit vote.nz for more information.

Get help with enrolling

Enrol using our public computers

Next time you're in the library, just ask one of our helpful staff for help with getting ready for the elections.

They can set you up on a public computer to enrol at Vote.nz and give you some tips if you get stuck during the process.

Book a librarian

If you need one-on-one help enrolling or updating your details, you can book a free session with a librarian.

Our friendly librarians can help make sure you are ready to go for election day, including assistance with enrolment and understanding the New Zealand system of government.

Remember, we are here to help you enrol and research your voting options, not tell you who to vote for. During the session, our staff will not discuss their personal political views.

Fill out the Book-a-Librarian online form to book a session.

Voting places

There are loads of voting places around Tāmaki Makaurau, including in some of our libraries. Visit Vote.NZ to find a voting place near you
