Why read comic books and graphic novels?
Reading graphic novels, manga and comics assists with and develops literacy through the use of images as well as words to tell a story. Engaging images and stories and small blocks of text help build motivation for reluctant readers, those with learning difficulties and learners of English.
The addition of illustrations gives readers additional ways to understand and find meaning in the text and build their confidence. It also allows older readers who might find text-based books challenging the opportunity to read complex stories, themes and vocabulary in a more approachable format.
Events and activities
Physical events have resumed at our libraries with limited numbers and physical distancing measures in place – according to the current COVID-19 alert level restrictions.
Visit your local library’s Facebook page or check out their noticeboards to find their full list of events or programming, including our school holiday programme, Real or Not, running from Saturday 26 September to Sunday 11 October.
