Library Hacks: Be a thrifty reader

Auckland Libraries customers know when they're getting a great deal - that's why thousands of Aucklanders visit and use our library services every year!

Libraries are the perfect opportunity to try before you buy! 

• Save hundreds of dollars by borrowing books rather than buying them (and conserve shelf space at home)

Our libraries also invest in some of the latest technology so you can give it a go and see whether it's right for you. We offer in-library access to VR technology, Playstation 4 consoles, 3D printers, robots, coding kits, sewing machines, Linux computers and much more.

2. Free kids holiday programmes and activities

Libraries around Tāmaki Makaurau run fun and educational activities during the school holidays and over the summer! Nearly all of our events are free and suitable for a broad range of ages.

Activities range from Wriggle and Rhyme sessions for babies, kids' book clubs for young bookworms to thrilling events like mystery nights and waterfights for teens.

Grownups don't miss out! We also host star-studded talks with local and international authors and offer workshops a wide range of topics including digital device help and how to break through family history brick walls.

3. The University of Life

Your local library is also your free university for life! We offer thousands of informative books on popular and niche topics. Whether you're brushing up on the New Zealand Road Code, searching for information on native New Zealand birds or preparing for some home DIY, we can help you find what you need to know.
