Library hacks: Make the most of our comics and graphic novels collection

Auckland Libraries provide Aucklanders with free access to millions of books - but did you know this includes over 17,000 comics, graphic novels, manga and more?

Check out five top tips on borrowing our comics and graphic novels and take advantage of these amazing collections available across our libraries.

1. Keeping up with the comics

Keep an eye on our newest purchases on the Graphic Novels New titles page. This page updates with newly purchased items on a daily basis. This is the best way to stay up to date with our newest comics, nab the latest volume in your current series and stay at the top of the requests list!

2. Request the next volume now

Starting a big series? Taking on CLAMP's back catalogue, Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s Ultimate Spiderman run, Gail Simone's Batgirl, or the Eisner and Hugo Award winning Saga is as easy as searching our catalogue. Look up a title or author and click to request the volumes you plan to read next!

3. Save your money

Being a comic fan can get expensive. Save yourself hundreds of dollars by borrowing our books! Not sure about a new series yet? Try it out first at the library. If we don't have what you're looking for yet, let us know via our Ask Us to Buy It form. We'd love to hear your recommendations!

4. Read it on your phone

You can also read graphic novels on your phone or tablet! Download Libby, by Overdrive from the App Store, Google Play, Microsoft Store or Amazon to read thousands of popular comic and graphic novels for all ages whenever and wherever you are.

5. Keep the kids reading

Comics and graphic novels can be a great way to keep kids reading despite the many distractions that come with entering secondary school and having a myriad of online content always at their fingertips.

Graphic novels can be simple humorous comic strips or complicated journeys through sophisticated themes. If you're new to comics and graphic novels, you might like to browse some of our librarian curated book lists to get started now!
