Library hacks: Five tips to finding a good read

If you haven't visited the library in a while, finding your way around can be quite a daunting task. We all know libraries are full of fascinating, gripping and titillating reads, but with endless options - where do you begin?

We’re sharing our top five tips to help you get the best out of your library experience. Whether you know exactly what you’re looking for or don’t know where to start, these library hacks will help you find those hidden gems and make the checkout process a breeze.

1. Recently returned

The recently returned section is a great place to start, as these are tried and tested by other customers! There will be a variety of genres on display, for those who don’t know what they’re looking for or if you're looking to try something new.

2. My Librarian

Finding a good book can be tricky if you don’t know what you’re interested in! You can request a personalised recommendation from one of our librarians, just by filling out a short questionnaire! They’ll use their expert skills to create a list of books to suit your interests and email it to you. Check out our My Librarians and their specialties here!

3. Displays

Visit your local library and check out creative displays that feature curated selections on a variety of cultural, pop-cultural and seasonally themed topics and more. If you’re ever in doubt, our lovely librarians are full of great recommendations!

4. eMembership

Like online shopping for the library, eMembership gives you access to thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines whenever, wherever! You can sign up online, get your library barcode and begin browsing! 5. Securing popular reads

Popular reads are sometimes very tricky to get your hands on. You can put a hold on a copy by logging into your library account on our website or Auckland Libraries app. If you’re not picky about the format, try out large print, eBook or eAudiobook versions. Happy reading!
