Tips for shining bright these school holidays

These school holidays we're shining bright!

Join us at your local libraries and from home for fun activities themed around light and the stars. We're conducting experiments, making art, becoming performing stars and taking part in Matariki celebrations.

If the cooler weather is keeping your whānau indoors, we have the tools you need for some extreme staycationing! Keep tamariki sparkling with free online resources to entertain, educate or distract!

Your Auckland Libraries membership gives you full access - just log in with your library card and password or PIN, and jump right in!

No library card? No worries! Sign up for an eMembership for full access to our eResources, all from the comfort of your own home.

Relax with a read

Research has shown that reading relaxes the body and the mind, even more than listening to music or going for a walk! Here are some great ways to escape the world around you and bring the family closer.
  • Make the most of having everyone together by choosing a family read-aloud for any time – not just bedtime
  • Put aside some quiet time each day to read 'together alone'. Hunker down in your favourite cosy corners for a read, parents and caregivers included!
  • Ask older kids to read their favourite picture books to the little ones for a nostalgic pick-me-up.
Visit our online library collections for reads the whole family will love. Remember, all our eBook collections also carry eAudiobooks for switching up your reading time to listening time!

OverDrive lets you borrow up to 35 books per library card, and there’s no such thing as late fees or lost books! Add all your family’s library cards, and let each person fill their shelf with a pick and mix of eBooks and eAudiobooks.

A great selection of New Zealand and international authors. From Māori myths and legends to Kiwi classics and non-fiction, find current and future family favourites here.

Discover great eBooks and eAudiobooks in BorrowBox – browse by Category to find books for all ages, including bestselling children’s authors Anthony Horowitz, Megan McDonald, Shamini Flint and Michael Morpurgo.
